In a bid to equip the younger generation with essential digital skills, the Government of Oman has launched a nationwide Digital Literacy Campaign aimed at youth. The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Technology and Communications, seeks to enhance digital literacy among students and prepare them for the demands of the modern workforce.

His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Futaisi, Minister of Education, announced the campaign at a press event held today in Muscat. The campaign will roll out a series of workshops, online courses, and interactive sessions across schools and universities in Oman.

"In today’s digital age, it is imperative that our youth are proficient in digital skills," said Dr. Al-Futaisi. "The Digital Literacy Campaign will provide students with the knowledge and tools they need to succeed in a technology-driven world."

Key features of the Digital Literacy Campaign include:

  • Workshops and Training Sessions: Hands-on workshops will be conducted in schools and universities, focusing on basic computer skills, internet safety, and coding.
  • Online Courses: A variety of free online courses will be made available, covering topics such as digital communication, cybersecurity, and data analysis.
  • Interactive Learning Modules: Students will have access to interactive modules and simulations that provide practical experience with digital tools and software.
  • Certification Programs: Upon completion of the courses, students will receive certificates that can enhance their resumes and career prospects.

The campaign has garnered support from various sectors, including technology companies, educational institutions, and non-profit organizations. These partners will contribute resources, expertise, and mentorship to ensure the success of the initiative.

Fatima Al-Harthy, a student at Sultan Qaboos University, expressed her excitement about the campaign. "This is a great opportunity for us to learn new skills that are crucial for our future careers. I’m particularly interested in the coding workshops," she said.

In addition to educational activities, the Digital Literacy Campaign will also focus on raising awareness about responsible digital citizenship. This includes understanding the ethical use of technology, recognizing the impact of digital footprints, and promoting positive online behavior.

The Ministry of Education has set up a dedicated website for the campaign, where students, parents, and educators can find information about upcoming events, register for courses, and access digital literacy resources.

The Digital Literacy Campaign is part of Oman’s broader strategy to foster a knowledge-based economy and ensure that the country’s youth are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
